Lila Neugebauer
LILA NEUGEBAUER is a New York-based, award-winning stage and screen director. She recently made her Broadway debut with the critically-acclaimed revival of Kenneth Lonergan’s THE WAVERLY GALLERY, starring Elaine May, Lucas Hedges, Michael Cera, and Joan Allen, produced by Scott Rudin. Recent theater credits include: Tracy Letts’ MARY PAGE MARLOWE (Second Stage), Edward Albee’s AT HOME AT THE ZOO: HOMELIFE/THE ZOO STORY (Signature Theatre), the world premieres of Sarah DeLappe’s THE WOLVES (Lincoln Center Theater), Annie Baker’s THE ANTIPODES, and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’s EVERYBODY (Signature Theatre). Additional world premiere credits include Zoe Kazan’s AFTER THE BLAST and Abe Koogler’s KILL FLOOR (Lincoln Center/LCT3).
As co-Artistic Director of The Mad Ones, Neugebauer co-authors and directs ensemble-based work, including most recently, MRS. MURRAY’S MENAGERIE (Ars Nova) and MILES FOR MARY (Playwrights Horizons). Other recent notable credits include: Albee’s THE SANDBOX, Fornes’ DROWNING and Kennedy’s FUNNYHOUSE OF A NEGRO (as an evening, Signature Theatre), A.R. Gurney’s THE WAYSIDE MOTOR INN (Signature Theatre), Mike Bartlett’s AN INTERVENTION (Williamstown), Annie Baker’s THE ALIENS (San Francisco Playhouse, Studio Theatre), Amy Herzog’s AFTER THE REVOLUTION and 4000 MILES (Baltimore Center Stage), and the world premieres of Zoe Kazan’s TRUDY AND MAX IN LOVE (South Coast Rep), Lily Thorne’s PEACE FOR MARY FRANCES (The New Group), Dan LeFranc’s TROUBLEMAKER (Berkeley Rep), PARTNERS and O GURU GURU GURU (Humana Festival).
Lila is an alum of the Drama League, Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab, Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab, an Ensemble Studio Theatre member, New Georges Affiliated Artist, and New York Theatre Workshop Usual Suspect. She is the recipient of the 2017 Obie Award for the direction of THE WOLVES, the Drama Desk Sam Norkin Special Award in 2017 for Outstanding Direction, and the Princess Grace Award.
Lila recently wrapped shooting her first feature, starring Jennifer Lawrence and produced by Scott Rudin and Eli Bush (IAC Films) in partnership with A24 and Excellent Cadaver. She also recently wrapped shooting on an episode of the Duplass Brothers’ “Room 104” for HBO and is developing MILES FOR MARY for television.
