The Seaview Perspective
SEA WALL/A LIFE had such an immediate and profound impact on downtown audiences that we were eager to be part of a fast-moving team who quickly transferred the play to Broadway to maximize its reach. A short run and limited ticket availability made it difficult for a mass audience to experience this creative masterpiece and its high-wattage cast.
To meaningfully democratize access to the play, we partnered with Audible to record the performance while also maintaining the production’s commitment to sharing lived experiences through weekly conversations following select performances. We knew that everyone, not just the audience, would be impacted by the underlying themes of this masterpiece so we activated the exterior walls of the Hudson Theatre with a massive mural to grow interest and appreciation for this profound production in celebration of all of life’s messy and comedic moments.
The Activations
Outside the Hudson Theatre, printed black and white portraits dotted the wall. Titled Inside Out, the portraits were part of a global art installation, conceived by famed French artist and activist JR, that reached 129 countries and captured people from all walks of life. SEA WALL/A LIFE welcomed the opportunity to have members of the audience and company added to the wall of portraits, an extension of the play’s commitment to the portrayal of parallel lives in Midtown Manhattan.
